Despite a record amount of snow in February, progress continues on the construction of the Dove Estates senior living community in Goddard.
While the snow did slow things down, it has not stopped construction on the facility, according to Aaron Kelley, Dove Estates administrator.
“We’re coming along as well as can be expected,” Kelley said. “The big snow obviously slowed down preparation of the site. We lost three weeks because of the record-breaking snow. We literally had to dig it all back down, dry it up, start refilling it and compacting it back up. But, we’re within a few days of being able to set in the sewer lines and then set in the footing.”
The Dove Estates project began to come to the forefront in Goddard last fall and is the latest example of commercial growth in Goddard. In the last year, the city has seen the debut of Kwik Shop Market and Walmart, and Dove Estates is slated to be finished by the end of 2013.
And what a place it will be. The Dove Estates Villas will feature 24 two-bedroom independent living apartments in four buildings for seniors. The Villas each are 1,000 square-foot apartments with a one-car garage attached and will be next to the assisted living community, which will have 61 apartments.
According to director of sales and marketing Jill Steiner, all Dove Estates residents will enjoy many amenities in the community. Among them will be restaurant-style dining, various activities, a hair salon, gorgeous courtyards and gardens. Dove Estates will have a fitness room for residents to use at their convenience and also will be available for services like rehabilitation, wellness monitoring, and consultations from dietitians, pharmacists and podiatrists.
“We are very blessed and fortunate to be part of this growing community in Goddard,” Steiner said. “With over 80 new future residents at Dove Estates, I believe the residents of Goddard will welcome us with open arms and give us the opportunity to feel at home here. We look forward to getting to know all of the local businesses that Goddard currently has and are thrilled to watch more and more businesses see the opportunity that Goddard has to offer.”
The opportunity to be in Goddard – a city that has seen much growth and could see more with the potential of a STAR Bond district coming to fruition – was a big selling point.
“I think that makes the community of Goddard an attractive place,” Kelley said. “Mr. Dugan (developer John Dugan) had been considering something like this for four years. The leadership of the city of Goddard was so accommodating with this project, and they made it easier for us than other communities. I think that speaks volumes for the growth in Goddard that can be expected going forward.”
Steiner also believes that Kelley himself is an asset to Dove Estates.
“His experience and values will ensure each employee at Dove Estates upholds those same values that we each have towards our residents and each other,” Steiner said. “We are commanded to ‘love our neighbors as ourselves’ and we hope all feel that love when walking through the doors of our new community.”
