Artists find inspiration in many things. For Brandon Pina, it came from two things he loves – his father and his music.
Pina, a freshman at Goddard High School, designed the button for this year’s Goddard Fall Festival, which takes place Oct. 4 and 5 in Goddard. The theme of the festival and Pina’s button is “Rockin’ the Yellow Brick Road.”
“My dad’s artwork inspired me,” Pina said. “I really got involved with art when I started my band.”
The Pina Brothers, which consists of Pina and his three brothers (Andre, Jeff and Chris), play blues, an uncommon choice for young people these days, but it is the style of music that Pina enjoys. The Pina Brothers have played at Riverfest and play “all over the place,” according to Pina.
“It’s hard to do other forms of music with stringed instruments,” Pina said. “We really like the blues, so it was a natural fit.”
Pina’s button, which features the main heroes from The Wizard of Oz – Dorothy, Toto, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow and the Tin Man – is the official art for the Festival.
“I was very excited,” Pina said. “It makes me feel good to see my work on display throughout the festival.”
Though he is new as a high school student, Pina already is looking to do design in college. He took an art class in seventh grade and enjoyed it. He also is excited for this year’s Fall Festival.
“I can’t wait. I’m looking forward to it,” Pina said.
Pina is the son of Richard and Jenniffer Pina.
