Time and colder weather in recent months may have put a dent in their numbers, but the Fitness Junkies of Conway Springs are still going strong after four years of existence.
The group started in Conway Springs in the spring of 2009 and had its beginnings as a part of Fitness Boot Camp Kansas, and even had an instructor from that organization.
According to Fitness Junkie Tracee Friess, the group in Conway Springs has had as many as 25 people working out with them, but during this winter, that number has dwindled to a handful. Friess said that she would like to see their numbers rebound.
“We stretch at the beginning, do body strengthening exercises like push-ups and tricep dips, plus we sometimes use medicine balls, and add in running and other cardio sometimes at track,” Friess said. “It’s a mix of a lot of different exercises.”
The Fitness Junkies meet three days a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) at the city park near the band shell, but from there they work out in various places across Conway Springs. It is designed in particular for women ages 15 through 65.
One new thing that the group is trying is giving those who attend the option to donate $1 per workout, which will go toward a prize to be awarded at the end of April.
“We want to add a motivation factor,” Friess said. “The dollars will go toward a cash prize to be drawn for at the end of the month.”
