Wayne Kent Henson, 82, of Norwich, passed away peacefully Monday, December 4, 2023 at Main St. Villa, Cheney, Kansas with his two sons by his side.

Kent was born on May 1st, 1941, the first-born son, of Wade and Velma Henson.  A few years later, little brother Gary would become a special addition to the family.  Kent began his life on a farm outside of Cheney, Kansas, before the family moved to their home in Norwich.

Kent graduated with the class of 1959 from Norwich High School.  He was a Homecoming King, Student Council President, and served on the Annual Staff.  Soon after High School, he married the love of his life and High School sweetheart, Karen Ann Loesch. The two were married on August 28, 1960, at the Norwich Christian Church. Nine months later, May 1961, the couple gave birth to their first son, Kurtis Wayne Henson.  Little brother Kenneth Eugene (Ken) soon followed and was born in October of 1962.

Kent attended WTI in Wichita, KS where he received his certificate as an electronics technician.  He spent a few years working at Beech Aircraft and then a few years working for American Airlines in Tulsa, OK.   The family soon moved back to Norwich where Kent took a job at Eshnaur’s IGA .  A few years later Kent would buy the store which became 4K’s IGA, (Kent, Karen, Kurtis, Kenny).

Kent was active in the community as an Elder at Norwich Christian Church, Lyon’s Club, City Council, Volunteer Fire Department and the Masonic Lodge.  Upon selling the store Kent invested his life doing what he really loved, farming and raising cattle.

Kent is survived by his wife, Karen, two sons, Kurtis (Nellene) Henson and Kenny (Jenni) Henson, brother Gary (Mary) Henson, six grandchildren: Megan, Ben, Kaitlin, Alecia, Ryan and Rachel.  Six Great Grandchildren: Sammy, Savannah, Aileena, Connor, Johnny and Addison.

Kent was an amazing man of God.  He loved Jesus and he loved His church.  Many people looked to Kent for encouragement and guidance.  He was an amazing husband and father, always putting his family first.  His grandchildren and great-grandchildren all loved and adored him.  Kent leaves behind him an incredible legacy of faith, hope and love.  “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
