Editor’s note: Following are the unofficial minutes of the March 16 USD 356 Conway Springs Board of Education meeting. The minutes will be adopted at the next regular meeting, and are subject to change prior to adoption.

The Board of Education meeting was called to order by President Brandon J. Pauly at 7:30 p.m. Other Board members present were Bill Dalbom, Bruce Harrington, Aaron Lange, Mark Hemberger, Curtis Winter, and Brad Farmer. Also in attendance were Cole Howard, Brent Harrell, Ryan Rusco, Crystal Cotton, Clay Murphy and Judy A. Andra.

Bill Dalbom moved to approve the minutes of the February 13th regular meeting as listed. Bruce Harrington seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Curtis Winter made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Mark Hemberger seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Curtis Winter moved to approve the bills and transfers as presented. Brad Farmer seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Bruce Harrington made a motion to approve the professional development inservice points and college hours as presented. Brad Farmer seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Bill Dalbom made a motion to approve requisitions as recommended for additional batting cage(s) concrete work from Mark Bartonek, summer work from Pearson Construction for district wide asphalt patching and sealing, from Berumen Painting, LLC for home pressbox carpet and subfloor repairs, from Osner Construction for middle school restrooms countertops and faucets work, from Osner Construction for elementary remaining rooms cabinets and sink work. Brandon J. Pauly seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Aaron Lange made a motion for the Drivers Ed fees of Summer 2023 as $125 per student, and for the teacher salary to be $185 per student as presented. Mark Hemberger seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Curtis Winter made a motion to hire Andrew Downey as summer mowing worker. Brad Farmer seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

At 7:54 p.m. Aaron Lange made a motion to go into executive session for 5 minutes to discuss negotiations as per exception for employer-employee negotiations under KOMA. Brandon J. Pauly seconded. Motion passed 7-0. Clay Mur-phy was extended an invitation.

The Board moved out of executive session at 8:01 p.m. stating that no binding action had taken place.

At 8:02 p.m. Curtis Winter made a motion to go into executive session for 30 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel matters as per exception for non-elected personnel exceptions under KOMA. Mark Hemberger seconded. Motion passed 7-0. Clay Murphy was extended an invitation.

The Board moved out of executive session at 8:32 p.m. stating that no binding action had taken place.

Brandon J. Pauly moved to accept, with regrets, the teaching resignation from Jessica Carson, elementary, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year. Bill Dalbom seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Curtis Winter moved to accept, with regrets, the teaching resignation from Tristan Carson, high school english, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year. Mark Hemberger seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Brad Farmer moved to accept, with regrets, the teaching resignation from Brent Vancuren, elementary, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year. Bruce Harrington seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Brandon J. Pauly moved to accept, with regrets, the teaching resignation from Connie Bauer, elementary, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year. Curtis Winter seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Bill Dalbom moved to accept, with regrets, the teaching resignation from Marissa Ray, high school art, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year. Aaron Lange seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Aaron Lange moved to accept the supplemental assignment resignations from Amber Sones, high school dance sponsor; Terese Beal, middle school head volleyball; and Emily Svoboda, middle school assistant volleyball. Curtis Winter seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Curtis Winter made a motion to approve the supplemental assignment of middle school assistant track to Justin Regehr for 2022-23 school year as recommended. Brandon J. Pauly seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Bruce Harrington made a motion to approve the supplemental assignment of high school assistant softball to Melissa Hartman for 2022-23 school year as recommended. Bill Dalbom seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Brad Farmer made a motion to approve the hiring of Sierra Ardanche as high school english teacher for 2023-24 school year as recommended. Mark Hemberger seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Bill Dalbom made a motion to approve the hiring of Heather Murphy as elementary teacher for 2023-24 school year as recommended. Bruce Harrington seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

Brandon J. Pauly declared the meeting adjourned at 8:42 p.m.
