Eisenhower boys and girls knocked out of State

The Eisenhower boys and girls teams had a short-lived trip to the 5A State tournament in Topeka.

The boys, used to dominating teams in the Ark Valley Central Plains League while building a 19-1 regular season record this year, were overwhelmed by Wichita Heights on Wednesday. The No. 5 seed Heights Falcons tamed the No. 4 Tigers 72-56 in their first-round match.

Heights hit 7 of 11 shots early, including a trio of 3-point baskets, to build an early lead that the Falcons never surrendered.

The Lady Tigers turned the ball 15 times in the first half and shot poorly against top seed Leavenworth. Eisenhower fell behind by 10 points in the first quarter, and lost their first-round game 71-37 on Thursday afternoon.

The Times-Sentinel will have more in next week’s print edition, including photos from the games at the Topeka Expocentre.
