Two sales tax votes resulted in two different results on Tuesday.

Voters in Conway Springs adopted a new 2 percent sales tax that will be used for road repair projects and maintenance. In 10 years, half of that sales tax – 1 percent – will expire. The other 1 percent will remain in place to continue paying for road projects in Conway Springs.

The Conway Springs sales tax was approved by a margin of 2-to-1, with 139 votes in favor, and 67 votes against.

Meanwhile, it appears that a 1 percent sales tax in Haysville that was approved by voters 10 years ago will not continue. On election night, the unofficial vote count showed the measure failing by three votes, 461-458. Those numbers changed a couple of times later in the week, as Sedgwick County Election officials offered updated vote totals on all races on Wednesday, Thursday and again on Friday.

The latest count shows the measure failing by four votes, 464-460.

Those numbers – or even the results – could change again. The election results for this issue and all other races won't become official until Thursday, Nov. 16, when the official canvass is performed.
