GARDEN PLAIN – The community of Garden Plain is joining the list of communities that hold fall festivals.

GP Fall Fest 2023 will take place on Oct. 7. It will feature a street dance and concert by Mountain Deer Revival. The event is being put together by the Garden Plain Economic Development Committee.

“We were working on a street dance and decided to turn it into a fall festival,” said Garden Plain city clerk Kim McCormick.

The festival will serve as a fundraiser for the gateway sign that is being planned for the community. Other projects could be targeted for fundraisers at future festivals.

A section of Main Street in downtown Garden Plain will be blocked off for the festival. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. An opening act is still to be recruited and will be scheduled to play at 7 p.m. before giving way to Mountain Deer Revival, which describes itself as a red dirt country band.

Advance tickets are $20 if paid for before the day of the event. Tickets for the day of the show will be $30, even if the purchaser had pre-registered.

A local annual ball tournament will take place on the same day, and the Knights of Columbus is planning its annual Mexican feed for that day.

The concert area will be open for the consumption of alcohol.

More details will be announced closer to the date of GP Fall Fest. Sponsors include Kruse Corporation, Becker Brothers Inc., American Fence Co. Inc., Atlas Electric LLC, and Allmetal Recycling.

Advance tickets can be paid through Venmo (@ CityOf-GardePlain); by mail to City of Garden Plain, attn: Fall Fest, 505 N. Main Street, Garden Plain, KS 67050; or by cash or check at the city building during business hours.
