Jane Kay Bearden, of rural Garden Plain, passed away peacefully in the Lord’s arms at Cheney Golden Age Home on Dec. 6, 2023.

Jane was a kind-hearted sister, aunt, daughter and wife. She loved gardening, watching HGTV and Food Network, and cooking her own family favorites such as homemade pies, biscuits and gravy, macaroni and cheese, and layered lettuce salad.

Jane was born Feb. 21, 1940, attended 12 grades of Cheney schools and was a member at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Jane was employed by Bell Telephone in Topeka when she met Roland Bearden, who was serving in the Air Force. After they married, Jane remained in Topeka while Roland served overseas. Following Roland’s Air Force retirement, they moved to their new home on Jane’s family land in rural Garden Plain. Jane continued to enjoy her rural home lifestyle after Roland’s passing in 1996, until she moved to the Cheney Golden Age Home in August 2022

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Roland Bearden, and parents, Wilbur and Mary Zerener. She leaves behind her brother, Roger Zerener of rural Garden Plain, and niece, Molly (Derrick) Cape of Thornton, Colo.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff of the Cheney Golden Age Home, Good Shepherd Hospice and Country Care Hospice for the loving care they provided Jane. A graveside burial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, located at 35100 W. 15th St. S. Cheney, KS 67025.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a memorial donation in Jane’s name to either St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 639 N. Lincoln, Cheney, KS 67025 Cheney or Cheney Golden Age Home, 724 N. Main, PO box 370, Cheney, KS 67025.
