Richard L. Nickell, 68, of Conway Springs, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, at his residence.

Richard was born July 21, 1955, in Wichita to Jesse Edward Nickell and Dolly Dean (Nickum) Nickell. He moved with his family to Conway Springs in 1964 where he attended Conway Springs public schools. He graduated from Conway Springs High School with the class of 1974.

Richard was united in marriage to Billie Ruth McMillan on May 8, 1976, in the United Methodist Church, Conway Springs. They made their home in the Conway Springs community, where they raised their family of two children.

Richard began working for Learjet after graduation from high school. He retired after working many years in flight testing in Wichita. Billie passed away March 26, 2021.

Richard also was preceded in death by his father in 2004 and his mother in 2017.

He is survived by one son, Heath Nickell of Wichita; one daughter, Serena Nickell and granddaughter Taverly of Norwich; his siblings, Ruth Bell and husband Jeff of Clearwater, Rod Nickell and wife Sondra of Norwich, and Raymond Nickell and wife Charlotte of Norwich; and a number of other relatives and many friends.

Memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 21, in Conway Springs Cemetery with Pastor Mike Justice officiating. Inurnment will follow in Conway Springs Cemetery.
