GODDARD – The 2024 Dam Jam has found a new home in the city of Goddard.

The Goddard city council voted at its meeting Monday to approve a special event permit for the live music and entertainment festival, pending proof of liability insurance. Dam Jam will be held July 19-21 on private property within the city limits.

The council also approved a waiver of the city’s sound ordinance from 11 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. each day of the festival. The event will be held on property located east of 183rd Street West, across east of Walmart, that also is north of the Prairie Sunset Trail and south of US-54 Highway.

Mayor George Liebe thanked organizers for their willingness to work with the city.

“We appreciate your willingness to work with us on location, providing insurance and pushing the time back to 11:59 p.m.,” he said. “I think this hopefully provides an opportunity for citizens and the community to become an annual occurrence.”

Originally the festival sought to return to Lake Afton, which was the site of the 2023 event. However, the Board of Sedgwick County Commissioners denied a permit, citing concerns about the lyrics in some of the music to be performed and also concerns about having enough resources to address public safety.

C.J. Wilson, president of A Production Company, LLC, which stages the Dam Jam, expressed gratitude to the City of Goddard.

“We are thrilled to announced Goddard as the new home for The Dam Jam,” she said in a press release. “This vibrant new setting promises a bright future for our festival. Goddard's openness and enthusiastic support for our event shine as a testament to community resilience.”
