College: Hutchinson Community College Dragons 

Sport: Track 

Why HCC: “I didn’t really know if I wanted to do track. I thought they were a place to start.” Rex said she likes going to a smaller school, and the coach is nice. “I wanted to stay close to home.”

Major: Associated science. Rex wants to then earn a four-year biology degree for pre-med. “I want to be a doctor in radiology.”

Favorite memory: “Making it to State last year was huge for me.” Rex used to attend State track and field meets to watch her older sibling. Last year was her first trip to State as a competitor.

A little bit more: “My mom was a thrower in college (at Wichita State). It was in our family. She got me started on it.”

Rex, who primarily throws javelin, said she learned more from her older brother. She also has done the hammer throw at select meets, and could do the weight throw in college, which is the indoor version of the hammer throw. Rex also was active in the Garden Plain youth track team.
