William Greg O'Neal
William Greg O'Neal of Wellington passed away at his home on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the age of 67.
Greg was born the son of William and Betty (Sawyer) O'Neal on Oct. 6, 1956 in Wichita. Greg was a man of reliable dedication and inspiring loyalty. Greg spent his years making a positive impact on those around him. He was a beacon of strength and kindness in his community, a state of being that was deeply rooted in his unwavering love for his family, his neighborhood, and his beloved Kansas Jayhawks.
Greg found great joy and pride in serving others. His dedication was most evident in his career as a police officer with the Wellington Police Department, where he served with honor and distinction. In his leisure time, William could often be found building model airplanes, a hobby that mirrored his meticulous nature and patience. He was a trustworthy neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was helping with tasks around the house or offering a ride to the store or appointments.
Greg is survived by his children, Jerry (Ashley) O'Neal of Topeka, Keith O'Neal of Derby, and Rebecca (Joe) Scott of Ohio; siblings: Pete (Carol) O'Neal of Conway Springs, Diann (Bill) Roth of Conway Springs, Janet (Galen) Schaefer of Meriden, Kan., Jerry (Karen) O'Neal of Wichita, Jacqueline (Dan) Gates of Hutchinson; grandchildren: Tanner O'Neal of El Dorado, Rylie O'Neal of Topeka, Codi O'Neal of Topeka, Cohen O'Neal of Salina, and Elena Scott of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Betty O'Neal and grandson, Tayton O'Neal.
A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. The family asks everyone to wear KU gear in Greg's memory.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the City of Wellington Animal Control and Wellington Humane Society. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
