HAYSVILLE – A big crowd turned out for last week's social event hosted by the Haysville Chamber of Commerce.

The event was held at Blood Orchard Brewing Company, where the family-owned business has undergone a big transformation recently, getting back into the orchard business and adding a brewery. While the social gathering was not designed as a regular business meeting for the Chamber, members did get a chance to learn more about Blood Orchard's operations, and hear from new Campus Colts head football coach Cody Peabody.

Jeff and Jessica Blood are fifth generation owners and operators at Blood Orchard, and they're excited about how the business is transitioning into a brewery and event space.

In addition, the orchard is back in production, offering peaches and apples.

“We're excited to add the brewery business, and our peaches, apples and honey are all being incorporated,” said Jessica Blood. “This unique space is available to rent, as well.” As the new head football coach at Campus High School, Peabody feels like he is coming home. He grew up in south Wichita near Haysville, and was a coach at Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School in Wichita.

“We're going to define our football program by excelling in life, in academics and on the field,” said Peabody. He said he is promising his players three things: a positive experience, that they won't be out-worked, and that they won't be out-prepared.

Joining Peabody at the social event was Booster Club organizer Tosha White, who also expressed her excitement for the upcoming season.

This Friday, Aug. 2, the football program will host an alumni and community barbecue at Colt Stadium from 6-10 p.m. The evening will include a barbecue cookoff featuring the CHS state champion BBQ team, Notorious P.I.G., games and a live DJ.

Admission is $20 for adults, and $5 for kids, with hot dogs available.

The first 500 in attendance will receive a free T-Shirt.
