Mary Louise (Stiger) Matthews, age 75, farm wife, wife of CW Matthews, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, CW; son, Curtis; brother, Leonard “Allen” (Cathy) Stiger of Colorado Springs; and sisters, Kathryn “Kay” (Joel) Ruark of Wichita, and Margaret “Joan” Ellis of Mulvane.
Mary Louise Stiger was born on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1948, in Wichita. She was the oldest of four children born to Leonard Arthur Stiger and Mildred Olive (Williams) Stiger. She grew up in Wichita, graduating from South High School. She then started working at Cowie Electric in Wichita.
Mary was united in marriage to Carl William “CW” Matthews II, (son of Carl and Doris Matthews) on Sept.
12, 1969 in Wichita. They lived for several years in Peck, before moving to the family homestead in Sumner County, when his parents retired to Clearwater in 1977.
Besides being a wonderful, loving, caring farmwife and mother, she also enjoyed getting to know her neighbors and spending more time with other women in the Peck and Clearwater communities.
Mary started her meat business, M&M Farms, about 20 years ago. Many of her family and friends would love to find out what her secret recipe was for her sausage!
One of the outside interests Mary enjoyed was working with ceramics. She made several pieces that are still in the family homes today. She was an outstanding bowler, always seeming to average high scores for her team.
Mary enjoyed being a member of EHU (Extension Homemakers Unit) of Sedgwick County. She also was a talented seamstress and would often times make clothes for the family for gifts.
Her favorite activity of all was when their family went on vacation every year to Crested Butte, Colo. CW’s parents owned a house there, and later, so did CW and Mary. Many wonderful memories were made there.
Mary’s inurnment will take place at Clearwater Cemetery at a later date.
