Veronica Rose Van Amburg, 36, of Wichita, flew to heaven to be with her father and the Lord on Friday, Dec. 19, 2025.

Veronica was welcomed to the world on May 6, 1989. She was born with profound mental retardation and a complex variety of other conditions that made her perfectly unique. Her life was filled with love, laughter, excellent care, and light. Her bright smile, holy presence, and sparkling eyes lit up any room she entered, and she will be dearly missed by many. After a month-long hospital stay and medical complications, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.

In celebration of her life, a rosary will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, directly followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., both held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 645 N. 119th St. W., Wichita, KS 67235.

She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas A. Van Amburg, and all four grandparents. Veronica is survived by her mother, Carole S. Van Amburg of Goddard; sisters, Marcy L. Leonard, Eileen C. O'Brien, Diana M. Austin, and Catherine S. (Russell) Fluty; brother, Benjamin D. Van Amburg; nephews, Thaddaeus (Emily) Leonard, Harrison Austin; and niece, Halle Austin.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Holy Family Special Needs Foundation, c/o Catholic Diocese of Wichita, 424 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67202.

Service was in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary-West Chapel. Share tributes online at: www.dlwichita.com.
