Jacqueline “Jacki” Gail Matthews, 84, of Clearwater, passed away on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, surrounded by family

Jacki was born in Wichita on Oct. 27, 1941, the daughter of Carl and Doris (Hukle) Matthews.

She was raised on a farm and graduated from Clearwater High School in 1959. She then attended Kansas State University, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. After earning her bachelor’s degree in education, she settled in Huntington Beach, Calif., teaching in the Fountain Valley School district for more than 40 years. Retirement allowed her to return to Clearwater to enjoy more time with family and friends.

Jacki was a faithful Christian and attended the Church of Christ. She loved traveling, music, and celebrating holidays. Her family will remember her positive attitude and her delightful laughter that revealed her true wit.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., both at the Clearwater Church of Christ, 13900 Diagonal Avenue, Clearwater. She will be laid to rest at the Clearwater Cemetery.

Jacki was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Vicki Johnson and brother-in-law, Gary Johnson; and sister-in-law, Mary Matthews.

She will lovingly be remembered by her brother, C.W. Matthews of Clearwater; nephews and nieces, George Gary (Kathryn) Johnson of Kaufman, Texas, Cherie (Todd) Johnson Moenster of Overland Park, Angie (Kelly) Heinrich of Louisburg, Kan., and Curtis Matthews of Clearwater; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Hunter, Cole, Jackson, Alexander, Kara, Kenna, and George.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Clearwater Church of Christ.
