Neal Claude Harrington, 82, of Channahon, Ill., formerly of Conway Springs, died Sept. 22, 2025, in Raleigh, N.C.

Neal was born Oct. 16, 1942 at Conway Springs, to Lloyd Albert Harrington and Emarene Martha (Robinson) Harrington. He moved with his family to the Harrington homestead 3 miles north and 2-1/2 miles east of Conway Springs in 1944. He attended Conway Springs public schools and graduated from Conway Springs High School with the class of 1960. He continued his education at Kansas State University and later graduated from Wichita State University in 1970 with a degree in electrical engineering.

Neal entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 27, 1962, where he proudly served his country. He was honorably discharged on May 20, 1966.

Neal was united in marriage to Brigette Otto on Oct. 14, 1965, in Wiesbaden, Germany, and to this union a son, Erik Claude, was born.

Neal worked for Honeywell as a design engineer in Freeport, Ill., for 15 years. In January 1985, Neal moved his family to Raleigh, N.C., where he worked for the next 20 years. Following his retirement, he and Brigette owned and operated the Antiques Emporium in Raleigh. They returned to Illinois in January 2025.

Neal was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carol Shinn.

He is survived by his wife, Brigitte Harrington; one son, Erik Harrington and his wife Karen, and granddaughter, Gillian, all of Channahon, Ill.; two brothers, Dale Harrington and wife Darlene of Lakewood, Colo., and Lynn Harrington and wife Susan of Augusta; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and extended relatives and friends.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at Conway Springs Cemetery with Pastor Mike Justice of the First Baptist Church, Milton, officiating. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Fort Riley. Inurnment will follow in Conway Springs Cemetery.
