Marie was the caboose in a family of five children, Raymond, Dale, Alvena, Larry and, of course, Marie. She moved to Conway Springs in 1946 at the age of 5. She attended Conway Springs public schools and graduated from Conway High School with the class of 1959.
She married Robert Eugene Pettegrew on Dec. 5, 1959, in Conway Springs, and to this union were born Veronica, Robin, and Debra. They made their home in Wellington. She was widowed on May 2, 1963. Marie and the girls returned to Conway Springs. She was later blessed with two stepsons, Craig and Curk Creed.
Marie moved her family to Mesa, Ariz., in 1969. She provided for them by working as a secretary in various industries, spending the majority of her career at A.G. Edwards. Her children were exceptionally proud when she passed the stockbroker exam at age 40. Marie retired for medical reasons on Feb. 14, 2000, after 21 years with the company.
Marie’s faith was very strong. She was an active member of her church everywhere she lived, most recently with the Church of the Master, in Mesa, Ariz. She believed in service to others. She instilled this belief in her daughters by her living example in church, Order of Eastern Star (Mesa Chapter #16) and as Mother Advisor to Mesa Assembly #9 International Order of the Rainbow Girls.
Marie was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, siblings and her two stepsons.
She is survived by her daughters, Veronica Yeaman (Jim) of Mesa, Robin LeBrun and Debra Pettegrew of Menifee, Calif., Cindy Creed of Mesa, and Patty Kline of San Diego, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
