Janice (Zerener) Green Reno
Janice (Zerener) Green Reno, 84, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at her home.
She was born in Cheney on Feb. 18, 1939, to Albert and Marjorie (Ryniker) Zerener. Jan was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cheney. She is survived by her husband, Earl Reno of Cheney, and her three children, Christopher (Jackie) Green of Wichita, Amy (Bill) Lester of Keller, Texas, and Megan (Todd) Green Harrison of Lawrence; step-son, Greg (Kelli) of Cheney; 10 grandchildren, Rachel Stahnke and Gretchen Green, James, Aaron and Kate Lester, Sam, Mollie and Luke Reno, and Johnny and Lily Stuke; and two sisters, Joyce Lehner of Cheney, and Judith Shipley of El Dorado. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger D. Green; and brothers-in-law, Robert Lehner and Curtis Shipley.
Jan attended the Cheney Public Schools from first grade through high school, graduating with the class of 1957. She received a bachelor's degree in dducation from Emporia State University in 1961 and a master's degree in counseling and school psychology from Wichita State University in 1983. She married Roger Green on Aug. 5, 1961, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cheney. They made their first home in Emporia, where Jan taught school for several years. Jan and Roger and their children lived in Emporia, St. Paul and Marshall, Minn., and Boise, Idaho. Following Roger's death in Idaho, she and her three children moved to El Dorado. She was a substitute teach for several years and then was an administrator/counselor at Butler County Community College in El Dorado for 15 years. She returned to rural Cheney and became a farm wife when she and Earl Reno were married in 1997. Upon his retirement from farming, Earl and Jan moved to Cheney, where they enjoyed their neighborhood and activities with church, family and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17. Burial will be held at a later date in Venita Cemetery.
