Celeste G. Stuhlsatz, 94, formerly of Conway Springs, died Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Presbyterian Manor, Wichita.

Celeste was born April 6, 1929 at Clonmel to John Baptiste May and Elizabeth (Nett) May. She attended parochial schools and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Wichita. She attended Kansas Newman University and the University of Oklahoma. She received her master’s degree in humanities.

Celeste was united in marriage to Joseph Peter Stuhlsatz on September 11, 1948 at Clonmel, Kansas. They made their first home in Milan before moving to a farm near Garden Plain in 1950. They moved to Conway Springs in 1952, where they reared their family of four children. They were in business in Conway Springs for 37 years before they retired to Wichita in 1989. Joe passed away on May 8, 2020.

Celeste was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Wichita, and a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway Springs.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Oscar, Martin, Rhinehardt, Clarence and John May; eight sisters, Olga Bergkamp, Dorothy May, Alma Rau, Marie Stuhlsatz, Delphine Schmidt, Alvina Schneider, D. Hugolene Metzinger, and Verna Blanchat; and an infant daughter, MaryAnn Stuhlsatz, in 1956.

Celeste is survived by three sons, Daniel (Sheila) of Staunton, Va., Joseph Jr. (Connie) of Wichita, and Thomas (Stephanie) of Albuquerque, N.M,; one daughter, Victoria (Jacob) Denton of Wichita; grandchildren, Sean Stuhlsatz, Kimberly (Charles) Langford, Tamberlyn Hendrix, Melissa (Scotty) Davis, Erin (Daniel) Forrester, Amy (Ryan) Stewman, and Sophia and William Stuhlsatz; great-grandchildren, Damon, Alex (Maryah), Reece (Riley) and Trent Langford, Drake and Sydney Hendrix, Natasha Filyaw, Ethan and Madelyn Davis, Emma Shoemaker, and Jackson, Asher, Colton and Harlyn Stewman; great-great-grandchildren, Nolan and Harper Langford, and Elleanor Filyaw; and a number of other relatives and many friends.

Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 12, followed by a memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m., both at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway Springs, with Father Tom Welk as celebrant. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conway Springs.
