Donald J. Becker
Donald J. Becker, 84, passed away, June 19, 2024, at his home after a long-fought battle with cancer.
He was born on Aug. 6, 1939, in Nashville, Kan., to William “Bill” and Rosa Hageman Becker. On Aug. 5, 1967, he married the love of his life, Lois Jansen, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Wichita. They were married 56 years.
Don was a 1958 graduate of Cunningham High School and then served in the U.S. Army. He farmed and retired from Chevron Oil Company. He enjoyed all sports, hunting and fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, and four children, Vickie Becker of Wichita, Cindy (Terry) Studer of Preston, Jennette (Nick) Rogers of Cunningham, and Marc (Magan) Becker of Cunningham. He had nine grandchildren, Landen Studer, Derek, Kara and Luke Scribner, Kendall, Weston and Leah Rogers, and Gracelyn and Miles Becker.
Don had 14 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sisters, Irene Spade and Gladys Randolph, and his brothers, Gene (Mae) Becker, Victor (Lois) Becker and Walter Becker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen (Elmer) Kerschen, Loretta (Delbert) Schwartz, Marie (Ken) Cooley, Marcella (Elmer) Orth, Caroline Dyche, Pat (Bob) Zrubek, sister-in-law, Rose Becker; brothers, Herman (Angie) Becker, William “Bud” (Darlene) Becker, Elmer (Marvella) Becker; and brother-in-laws, Elmer Spade and G.B. Randolph.
A parish rosary service was held Sunday, June 23 at 6 p,m, and Mass of Christian Burial was on Monday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m., both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cunningham, with Father Roger Lumbre presiding. Burial with military rites followed Mass at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cunningham.
