Dorothy J. Hollis
Dorothy J. Hollis, 91, of Conway Springs, died peacefully at her Conway Springs home on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023.
Dorothy was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Wichita to Ira Criswell and Dorothy (Whitaker) Criswell. She grew up in Wichita and attended Wichita public schools. She graduated from Wichita North High School with the class of 1949. While attending Wichita North High School, Dorothy worked at Dockum Drugstore, walking three miles daily to and from work. After graduation, she began working as a switch board operator at Morgan Bulleigh, and then later at Bob Moore Oldsmobile in Wichita.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Darrell Klein Hollis on Sept. 4, 1954. They moved from Wichita to Conway Springs in 1965, where Dorothy was a stay-at-home mother, raising their family of three children. After the children were of school age, Dorothy went to work at Cessna Aircraft in avionics wiring assembly, retiring in 2001 after three decades of employment. Darrell passed away March 28, 2018.
Dorothy also was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Thelma Lou Willig. She is survived by her children, Vicki Barkley and husband Brad of Conway Springs, Darrell G. Hollis and wife Marilyn of Conway Springs, and Stacy Schauf and husband Gene of Newton; brothers, Roy Criswell of Springfield, Mo., and Ken Criswell of Kingman; sister, Barbara Perrin of Shell Knob, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Methodist Church, Conway Springs, with Pastor Jacob Maforo officiating. Interment will follow in Eden Cemetery, Milton.
