Ella Lois Greenwood, 91, of Argonia, passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at her home.

Lois was born Nov. 9, 1931, at Argonia to Charles Francis Meridith and Ella Hazel (Phillips) Meridith. She grew up in the Argonia community and attended Frog Pond rural school. She graduated from Argonia High School with the class of 1949 and continued her education at the University of Kansas.

Lois was united in marriage to John Preston Greenwood on Oct. 8, 1950, at the Argonia United Methodist Church. They made their home in Argonia, where they raised their family of four children.

Lois was a farmer’s wife and also became an insurance agent working first for Rust Insurance Agency in Argonia and later retiring from Hadsall and Andrews Insurance Agency in Anthony.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Rex and Max “Toby” Meridith; a granddaughter, Megan (Forrest) McDaniel; and son-inlaw Rod Boatright.

Lois was a member of the Argonia United Methodist Church. She had served the Argonia community on the Health Clinic Board, the election board and the local library board.

Lois is survived by her children, Don Greenwood (Ronda) of Burbank, Okla., Nancy Forrest of Wichita, Scott Greenwood (Cindy) of Argonia, and Sue Boatright of Mayfield; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Argonia United Methodist Church, Argonia. Interment was in Argonia Cemetery.
