Frances Eleanor (Williams) Chitwood
Frances Eleanor (Williams) Chitwood, 95, farm wife from Anson, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at Homestead Assisted Living, Wellington.
Frances was born March 22, 1930, at Hugo, Colo., the oldest of three children of Glyn and Mildred (Watkins) Williams. She grew up in Karval, Colo., and attended the nearby Pride of the Prairie Elementary School at Pumpkin Center, Colo. She later attended Rocky Ford High School and graduated with the class of 1949. Frances continued her education at Blair Business College at Colorado Springs, and later graduated from Browns Business College at La Junta, Colo. She began working as a secretary for a local real estate office in Colorado Springs.
Frances was united in marriage to Melvin Francis Chitwood on July 5, 1952, at Conway Springs. They made their home at Rural Route 1, Mayfield, following Melvin's discharge from the U.S. Army. They moved to Anson in 1971. Frances was a homemaker, farm wife and also later worked at the Wellington Sale Barn. Melvin passed away on May 20, 2010.
Frances also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Thomas Williams and Robert Williams; and one infant grandson Jordan Pelling.
She is survived by one son, Rick Chitwood and wife Margareta of Mayfield; three daughters, Diane Miller and husband Ed of Conway Springs, Pelling and husband Stan of Michigantown, Ind., and Lisa Ast and husband Cecil of Conway Springs; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Conway Springs Cemetery, Conway Springs.
