Jimmy Dale Wise, 91, of Conway Springs, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, at Park West, Wichita.

Jim was born March 3, 1935 in Rogers, Ark., the son of Walter Wise and Marie Langston. He grew up in Helena, Okla., where he attended local public schools. He began working at a young age and came to Conway Springs to work on the construction of a local grain elevator. He later worked as an area deputy sheriff.

Jim was united in marriage to Sandra Colleen Strait on Jan. 8, 1955, in Conway Springs. They made their home in Conway Springs and raised their family at 404 S. Cranmer.

Jim worked for Santa Fe Railroad, later known as Burlington Northern Santa Fe, for 37 years. He retired as an engineer in 1997.

Jim and Sandra shared 59 years of marriage before her passing on Oct. 30, 2014.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Doyle Strate; and his son, Kevin Wise.

Jim is survived by one daughter Jill Mechem (Geoff) of Wichita; his daughter-in-law, Janice Wise of Conway Springs; four grandchildren, Amanda Wise, Candace Wolke (Mike); Marcus Mechem (Juvie), and Travis Mechem (Sara); four great-grandchildren, Jera, Micah and Caven Wolke, and Hadley Howard; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sep.t 5, Conway Springs Cemetery, Conway Springs, with Pastor Lorna Boden of the Conway Springs Methodist Church, Conway Springs, officiating. Interment will be in Conway Springs Cemetery.
