Our dad, John “Johnnie” Kurimsky, passed away June 9, 2025, in Wichita, at the age of 100 years, 8 months and 17 days.

He was born in a rural home just west of Clearwater, where he continued to live until March 2024. During World War II, at the age of 18, he was drafted and joined the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific stationed on Guam Island from 1943 to 1946.

He met Mary Catheryn (Katie) Schoeppel during his early childhood years attending Clearwater schools and they were married shortly after his return from service in May 1946.

Dad worked briefly for Standard Oil, then went to Boeing in 1949, where he enjoyed a rewarding 38-year career, retiring in 1987. Dad served on the Clearwater Fire Department, was an elder at the Clearwater Christian Church, and a was member of the VFW Post #93.

Dad’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and with many close friends in and around Clearwater.

Dad was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Katie; by his parents, Anna and John Kurimsky; five sisters; and two brothers.

He is survived by his children, Linda (Jim) Whitney, Mike (Candy) Kurimsky, and Lori (Mike) VanBuskirk; grandchildren, Lance (Ruth) Whitney, Jeremy (Tanya) Whitney, Chele (Daniel) Myears, Amy (Steve) Nelson, Chad Snow, April (Tim) Argo, and Kelly (Ashli) Snow; 16 great grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation with family will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 12, and funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., June 12, taking place at Webb Shinkle Mortuary, 200 S. Tracy, Clearwater.

Memorials have been established with the Kansas Honor Flight, PO Box 2371, Hutchinson, KS 67505, and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.
