Louie Franklin “Leon” Jennings, age 90, of Haysville, passed away at home on Monday, May 12, 2025.

He was born in Opelika, Ala., to William Louie Jennings and Geneva (Jarrell) Jennings. He moved to Wichita in 1952, and married Jeanette Hendershot in 1954. They had two sons, Terry Leon and Trenneth Jennings.

Leon was a supervisor for OA Sutton until they closed. He then served his apprenticeship journeyman in the painting industry. As foreman/supervisor, he worked in several different states. He worked for Andy Mynear, Jerry Harding Paint and Mid-West Paint, where he became good friends with the owner, Gary Carr.

He was an avid coon hunter and night found him in the woods hunting and listening to the dogs tree. He was a competition hunter around the state, and also competed in the world hut. His shelves had many trophies. Fishing also was a great sport of his and he taught his children, grandkids, nephews and nieces the joy of both sports.

Leon is survived by his two sons, Terry Leon Jennings and Trenneth “Trenny” Jennings of Haysville; daughter, Christina Hastings and son Jason Hough of Haysville; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; his ex-wife and caregiver, Jeanette Jennings; close friend, Billy Dees; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Shelly and Truman Jennings; sisters, Maxine Gaston, Carolyn Crossley and Annette Dees; great-grandson, Donis Moody; and mother of Christina and Jason, Katharine Hough-Patterson.

Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, both held at Colonial Heights Assembly of God, 5200 S. Broadway, Wichita. Graveside service followed at Greenwood Cemetery, 6231 W. 47th St. S., Wichita.
