Michael Nelson Raines (1950-2024), was born in Falls City, Neb., to Eldon and Marilyn Raines, and raised in Conway Springs. He graduated from Conway Springs High School in 1968. He passed away April 21, 2024, in Silverdale, Wash. After years of moving across the country while in the US Navy, from Hawaii to Connecticut, he finally settled with his family in Bremerton, Wash., for the last 39 years.

Michael served in the Navy for 22 years, retiring from military life in 1994. In civilian life Michael returned to school, majoring in business administration at Central Washington University in 1997. Michael retired, once again from civilian life, after working as a manager for Walgreens. Known for his easy-going demeanor, he was an avid stamp collector and enjoyed spending time at home with his wife and cat in his retirement years.

He is survived in life by his wife of 47 years, Hieu (Le) Raines of Bremerton Wash.; son, Dennis Raines (Wendy) of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Vickie Patzel (Joe) of Wichita; three nieces, Mary Rodden of New Braunfels, Texas, Melissa Tinker (Martin) Wichita, and Laura Johnston (Chris) Andover; two great-nieces; and four great-nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Eldon Raines, in 2017, and mother, Marilyn (Cass) Raines, in 2014, both of Conway Springs.
