Sandra Sue Allen
Sandra Sue Allen, 79, of Milton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at Cheney Golden Age Home, Cheney.
Sandra was born on Dec. 31, 1944 on a farm near Severy, Kan., to Wyatt Buren Knight and Bernita June (Boss) Knight. She grew up in the Severy area and attended Paw Paw School, a nearby two-room rural school, before graduating from Severy High School with the class of 1962. She continued her education by attending business college in Kansas City, completing a secretarial program before working there for a local plumbing company. She returned to Severy before starting a secretarial job for a plumbing company in Wichita.
During the summer of 1966, she went on a blind date with Elbert Ray Allen, the love of her life. Three months later, they were united in marriage on Oct. 2, 1966. They made their first home in Wichita before moving to Norwich. They later moved to 1231 N. Sycamore in Milton, where they raised their daughter, Amy Karena, born on Aug. 26, 1974.
Sandra was employed as the payroll manager for Howard Pipkin Chevrolet in Cheney for seven years before working as a payroll clerk at Shepler’s Western Store in Wichita. She was later promoted to payroll manager and oversaw the payroll over all the nationwide Shepler’s retail stores throughout the U.S. She retired after 27 years in 2007.
Sandra was an active member of the Norwich Christian Church, where she had served as secretary for the church board. She also served as the secretary for the Norwich Booster Club and the Elementary School Home and School Club. Sandra was active in a prize-winning bowling league and the Norwich Christian Women’s Fellowship.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings, David Knight, Cinda Chandler and Terry Knight; and one infant son, David Ray Allen.
She is survived by her husband, Ray; her daughter, Amy Albin and husband Mark of Hesston; one brother, Gary Knight of Severy; two grandchildren, Chet Albin and Cassandra Albin; multiple special nieces and nephews; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, from the Norwich Christian Church, Norwich, with Pastor Eric Taylor and Pastor Kurt Henson, officiating. Committal service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in South Lawn Cemetery, Severy.
