T.J. Vance, age 86, resident of Haysville, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023 at the Glen Carr Memory House in Derby.

Visitation with family present will be 9:30-11 a.m. Friday, March 31, with the service following at 11 a.m., at Shinkle Mortuary, Haysville. Burial to follow at Waco Cemetery.

T.J. Vance was born on Aug. 20, 1936, to Lewis Riley and Edith Marie (Sanderson) Vance at Coffeyville. As a young boy, he grew up in Bartlett, Kan., and graduated from Labette County Community High School. He served in the Army Reserves for eight years and was in a tank division. T.J. was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Masons.

T.J. retired from Boeing Aircraft after 38 years. He loved to travel and discover new places and adventures. He was able to travel to six continents. T.J. enjoyed paragliding over the fjords, climbing the harbor bridge in Sydney, and walking the Inca trail in Peru and the Great Wall in China, and snorkeling in the Caribbean.

T.J. is survived by his wife, Gloria, of 64 years; sons, Thomas Jay of Wichita and Richard Todd of Haysville; granddaughter, Ashley (Chris) Rodriguez and greatgrandchildren Lauryn and Everett of Dallas, Ga., and granddaughter Alli (Jay) Finn and great-granddaughter Zoey of Queen Creek, Ariz.; one sister, Jaqueline Williams of Columbus, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Willa Dean Aldrich and Faye Norlene Molitor; and one brother, James Riley Vance.
