Beverly Mies
Beverly Jane (Shinn) Mies, 89, of Wichita, formerly of Conway Springs, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, at Ascension Living Via Christi Village Ridge, Wichita.
Beverly was born Nov. 6, 1936 on a farm west of Millerton, Kan., to Theodore Kermet Shinn and Nellie Hussey Shinn. She spent her early childhood near Millerton and attended Millerton rural school through the sixth grade. She attended Conway Springs public school and Conway Springs High School, where she played clarinet and was a member of the marching band.
She was awarded a medal for her talents at State competition and graduated with the class of 1954. She continued her education and attended Friends University in Wichita. Beverly was united in marriage to Wilfred Peter Mies on Dec. 17, 1955 at Wichita. They made their home in Wichita their entire married life. Wilfred passed away June 6, 2017.
Beverly was a homemaker and a committed volunteer.
She was active as a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of St. Francis Hospital in Wichita for 25 years and held various offices including being on the board of directors. She also served as chairman of many PTA events at McLean Elementary and local Girl Scout cookie sales.
Beverly was fun-loving, determined and resourceful. Her many talents included music, sewing and baking. She was famous for her pies, chocolate sheet cake and potato salad, and sharing with family and friends.
Beverly was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Conway Springs.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Truman Shinn; and one sister, Dalice Cline.
Beverly is survived by two daughters, Debbie Gardner and husband Steve, and Lee Ann Sack; her grandchildren, Sarah Zink and husband Ryan, David Gardner and wife Dana, Corinne Novacek, Richard Sack, Daniel Sack and wife Kayde, and William Sack; six great-grandchildren, Sydney and Ainsley Zink, Pierce, Layla and Lawson Novacek, and Sienna Sack; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
Graveside service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Conway Springs Cemetery with Pastor Lorna Boden officiating.
