Letha Saunders
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Letha I. Saunders, a loving and loyal mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left us on Oct. 4, 2026.
Born on Sept. 5, 1927, in Wellington, Letha was a pillar of strength, support, and love to her family and friends. Letha’s generous spirit was evident in her involvement in numerous social and religious activities. Her love for her community was only surpassed by her commitment to her faith and family. Letha was a devoted member of her church where she had previously taught adult Sunday School and participated in the Tractors for Africa bake sale and auction.
Letha spent the majority of her life in Wellington, having moved there after graduating from high school in Argonia. She worked for many years as a legal secretary for the county attorney, the probate judge, and the Pfalzgraf family. Her dedication to her work was recognized and appreciated by all who had the privilege to work with her. Letha was a woman of many talents, including gardening, quilting, cooking, and reading. She was an active member of various quilting clubs and a bridge club, and her quilts were treasured by those lucky enough to receive them.
Letha is survived by her son, Michael (Kelly) Saunders; grandchildren, Brynn Richardson, Nathan (Liz) Saunders, Kate (Bill) Pfaff, Kelsey (Brien) Curry-Swingle, and Brett (Julie) McNeil; and great-grandchildren, Alex Richardson, Jackson Curry, Sam Richardson, Elliott McNeil, Addie Curry, and Amelie McNeil. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon Sr. and Edna Fitts; her beloved husband, Samuel “Ed” Saunders; her daughter, Susan McNeil; and her brothers, Asa Fitts and Gordon, Jr.
