A $1 billion issue

The Kansas House this week passed a wide-ranging package that provides roughly $500 million to taxpayers a year. The plan received bipartisan support, mostly because it has a much smaller price tag than a handful of tax relief bills that recently passed the state Senate.

From 1963 Groundbreaking ceremonies opened construction of the Argonia high school plant located on a nine acre tract of land on the east edge of town. School was dismissed and the student body joined a crowd of persons from Argonia and the surrounding area to watch the high school board members, Harold Harper, Keith Mortimer, and John Olmstead turn the first spadefuls of dirt to begin the project.

6 Years Ago The Haysville Sun-Times and its sister newspapers brought home numerous awards from last weekend's Kansas Press Association Awards of Excellence, held in conjunction with the association's annual convention in Topeka. The Sun-Times won three-first place awards and a second-place award.

Surprise Cutout Pound Cake

Ingredients 2, 16-ounce packages of pound cake mix all ingredients called for on the pound cake mix box food coloring (whatever shade you want) 2 teaspoons peppermint, vanilla, almond, or etc., extract Directions Preheat the oven to whatever temperature the pound cake package calls for. Grease a nine-by-five-inch loaf pan (regardless of what size your final cake will be).
