Leslie L. Symes was born on July 8, 1937, to Burrell and Marcella Hopper Symes in Fairview, Okla. He passed away on Sept. 13, 2023.
Visitation with family present was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, at the Wulf-Ast Chapel in Garden Plain. Service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Cheney Methodist Church in Cheney, and the burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Laverne Cemetery in Laverne, Okla. 
His parents moved to Clear Lake, Okla., to a farm when he was in the second grade. He attended school in Clear Lake through eighth grade. He graduated in 1956 from Laverne High School. 
He moved to Wichita after graduation and went to work for Boeing Airplane Company. He retired from there in 1992.
He married Donna Herman on Nov. 23, 1956. They had three children, L. Eugene, LaDon and Melinda Rae.
In 1963 they moved to Cheney to raise their family and so their kids could attend a smaller school. 
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and playing cards. He enjoyed telling everyone about his seven holes-in-one he made in golf, and also playing golf with Ken Cross in three states in one day (Nevada, Arizona and California).
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; daughter, LaDon; grandson, Joseph Symes; son-in-law, Kenneth Wood; brother, Jerry Symes; sisters-in -laws, Peggye Symes, Laverna Stevens and Bonnie Schaffer; brothers-in-law, Bill Stevens, Bill Walcher, Keith Bell and Orand Miller; and nephews, Jason, Bryce and Titus Schaffer.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Donna Symes; son, Eugene Symes (Janet); daughter, Melinda Wood; granddaughters, Shannon Weir (Matthew), Shelby Jarnagin, Janna Nelson (Josh), Jamie Weeks (Eric), Jenna Loomis (Kyle), and Janessa Asher (Ryan); brother, Virgil Symes (Darlene); sisters-in-law, Arliss Walcher and Vonna Miller (Mike); 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends that he loved dearly.
He was a member of the Cheney Methodist Church.
