Douglas “Doug” Alan Van Amburg, 74, of Goddard, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

He was born on Sunday, Dec. 25, 1949, to parents Ruby (Roop) and Donald "Don" Van Amburg in Concordia, and was raised through childhood in Washington, Kan. In 1968, after the family transitioned to Wichita, Doug graduated from Wichita South High School and attended Wichita State University from 1968 to 1971.

Doug served his country for eight years as a member of the U.S. Air Force, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant, and then for an additional two years in the Air National Guard. Before retiring, he worked for years as a safety director at Midwest Drywall.

Doug volunteered often, serving his community as a member of the Goddard Planning Commission for multiple decades, a long-time member of the operations committee for the Wichita River Festival, and a dedicated member of Wichita Wagonmasters.

In his youth, Doug spent time as a member of 4-H and Boy Scouts. He also assisted his children in 4-H, and was an assistant leader for his son's Boy Scout troop. Doug's love for horses and enthusiasm for cars was apparent to all who knew him well. Doug was a member of Glenn Park Christian Church in Wichita.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby (Roop) and Donald Van Amburg; sisters, Janet Hampe and Tammy Puetz; and former wife, Crista D. Van Amburg. He is survived by his wife, Carole S. Van Amburg; sister, Brenda Medcalf; daughters, Marcy L. Leonard, Eileen C. O’Brien, Diana M. Austin, Veronica R. Van Amburg, and Catherine S. Fluty (Russell); son, Benjamin D. Van Amburg; and three grandchildren.
