Betty L. Hare
Betty L. Hare, 96, of Conway Springs, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at Spring View Manor, Conway Springs. Betty Lou (Ross) Hare was born Nov. 27, 1928, on a farm southwest of Mayfield, to Milton Henry Ross and Ethel Laura (Porter) Ross. She attended rural school Union District #103 for grades 1-6 before transferring to Mayfield and Wellington. Her senior year she moved to Sterling, where her sister Marjorie was teaching, and went to high school in the morning and attended classes at Sterling College in the afternoon. Following her graduation from high school, she returned to Wellington and began working at Hatcher Hospital in the business office. Betty was united in marriage to James William Hare on July 13, 1947, at the Presbyterian Church, Wellington. They made their first home in Wellington. They were soon offered the opportunity to rent a farm southwest of Conway Springs in 1948. They later relocated to the E.J. Frantz quarter in 1952. They eventually purchased the land and built a new home on it in 1978. They spent 70 years on the farm together. Jim passed away on Nov. 23, 2023. Betty was an active member of the Conway Springs Methodist Church and involved in numerous capacities and committees for many years. She also was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Theodore Ross; two sisters, Marjorie Hare and Mickie Alderdice; a son-in-law, Paul Achenbach; and a great-granddaughter, Whitney Allmond. Betty is survived by two daughters, Jean Dennett and husband Gary, and Jeanette Achenbach, all of Conway Springs; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 at Conway Springs Methodist Church, Conway Springs. Interment will be in Conway Springs Cemetery, Conway Springs, Kansas.
