Betty J. (Swingle) Taton, 95 of Argonia, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at her daughter’s home near Argonia.

Betty entered this life on Jan. 24, 1930, at Argonia, and was the fourth of five children born to Eva Lettie (Crites) and F.A. Swingle. She graduated from Argonia High School with the class of 1948. Following high school, Betty and high school sweetheart, Olen LeRoy Taton, were united in marriage on Sept. 6, 1948. Together they celebrated 76 years together. Their union was blessed with two children, Linda and Nolen.

Betty was a proud homemaker and farm wife. She and Olen moved into Argonia in 1975, where Betty worked at the Raider’s Inn for many years. Olen passed away on Sept. 19, 2024.

Betty was a member of the Friends Church in Argonia, where she actively taught and served in numerous capacities in the church. She was a Foods and Gardening 4-H leader and had won many awards for her bread making. She also was a member of the Northside Community Club.

Betty was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Everett, Lawrence and Myrle Swingle; one sister, Mary Lou Voge; her son, Nolen Taton; and one granddaughter, Karlee Taton.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Bill) McIntire of Argonia; four grandchildren, Andrew (Kristi) McIntire, Travis (Sheila) McIntire, Emily (Eric) Schroeder and Stephanie (Jared) Delaney; 10 great-grandchildren, Audra (Tyler) Hudspeth, Andrew McIntire, Bradey McIntire, Ethan McIntire, Lettie McIntire, Keenan Schroeder, Zachary Schroeder, Clayton Delaney, Carl Delaney and Hadley Lozar; two great-great-grandchildren, Boone and Taton Hudspeth; many nieces and nephews; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the First Baptist Church, Milton, with Pastor Mike Justice officiating. Interment will follow in Argonia Cemetery, Argonia.
