The Campus Colts opened the season with a 71-61 home victory over the Andover Trojans, giving new head coach Zac Kliewer a win in his debut as the Colts’ new head coach. Kliewer, a longtime assistant coach at Campus, said he was excited to get the win.

The host Trinity Academy Knights ran out to a 21-8 first-quarter lead over the Garden Plain girls basketball team last Friday. That set the stage for the Knights’ 62-34 win in the season opener for both teams.

Raiders drop close one

TSnews The Argonia Raiders girls basketball team overcame an early deficit to lead going to the final period in last Friday’s season opener against Pretty Prairie, but came up just short at the end in a 38-33 loss. “We played really well at times and worked hard defensively,” Argonia coach Dixie Brewster said.

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team struggled to put the ball in the hoop as the Lady Cardinals dropped a 51-47 decision to Central Plains League foe Medicine Lodge in last Friday’s season opener. Conway Springs (0-1) shot just 23 percent (15-of-65) the field and 21 percent (6-for-29) behind the 3-point line, but still came close to pulling out the opening night win.

Early lead lifts Cardinals past Indians

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals girls basketball team raced out to a 19-point lead after the opening period and made it stand up with a 60-49 win over a solid Clearwater Indians squad in last Friday’s season opener at Cheney High School. The Cardinals sprinted out to a 25-6 lead after the first quarter and held Clearwater to just 34 percent shooting from the field (18-for-53) while forcing 28 turnovers.

Lady Colts struggle in opener

The Andover Trojans rolled to a 70-11 victory last Friday over the Campus Colts girls basketball team in Haysville. The Colts scored 10 points in the first half, managing just a single point after the break as the offense struggled to gain any traction.

Lions 6th at G-E

TSnews The Goddard Lions wrestling team got the season off to a good start as the boys squad took sixth at the always rugged Gardner- Edgerton Invitational last Saturday. The Lions finished with 129 1/2 points, 12 points behind Manhattan for fifth as the top two Kansas schools at the five-state event.

Blake takes 2nd for Indians

TSnews The Clearwater Indians boys and girls wrestling teams made the trip to the Pratt tournament last weekend to open the season and had one wrestler end up on the medal stand. On the girls’ side, Kiley Blake tool second at 170 pounds to lead the Indians.

Burling wins title for Colts at Valley

TSnews Brooklyn Burling had a day to remember last Saturday at the Valley Center Invitational. The Campus girls wrestler pinned all three of her opponents at 235 pounds to win the Colts’ lone title of the day.
