Body TSnews Decent weather graced the Campus track and field meet last Friday in Haysville, as 11 teams competed at Colt Stadium. The Campus girls were in a close battle in the middle of the field.

Body The Cheney Cardinals baseball team continued its recent hot streak last Thursday when it swept a doubleheader at home against Belle Plaine, taking the opener 18-8 and the nightcap 9-5. It was the Cardinals’ seventh win in its last eight games.

Body TSnews The Cheney Cardinals continued their hot start to the softball season last Thursday by sweeping a doubleheader from Belle Plaine, taking the first game 17-5 and the second 20-5. In the opener, Cheney pounded out 20 hits, led by four from Chesney Hoch.

Body HAYSVILLE – Since 1997, Form Systems Inc. in Haysville’s industrial park has been producing insulated concrete forms (ICFs), which are used for pouring below-grade and above-grade concrete walls for homes and other buildings.

Body CHENEY – This is only the fourth week that the new Anchor Farm has been providing produce in Cheney and Yoder, but Shelby Beyer’s family farm has been years in the making.

Body GODDARD – After a record number of applicants to its 2023 Scholarship Interview Days, Newman University has selected 41 students to receive its prestigious Monsignor Leon McNeill Scholarship for the upcoming 20232024 academic year.

Body CLEARWATER – Meredith Thomas, Clearwater Intermediate-Middle School STEM teacher, has been selected for the Cosmosphere’s 2023 Launch-Learning Fellowship, an honor that comes with more than $800 in free resources teachers can share with their school and district.

Body CHENEY – The Cheney City Council has voted to change the lot size requirement for home additions that require roads with curbs and guttering. The action was taken at the council's March 9 regular meeting.

Body GODDARD – Former Goddard city administrator Brian Silcott has a new employer. Silcott was named on March 6 as the new city manager for the City of Ottawa in northeast Kansas.

Body Secretary of State Scott Schwab selected an economic development administrator to fill a vacancy as Sedgwick County Election Commissioner. He appointed Laura Rainwater to the post, making her the third person to hold the job since 2021 in the state’s second most populous county.
