SUMNER COUNTY – Culvert work is expected to begin sometime around next Monday on portions of K-44 Highway in portions of Sumner and Harper counties. The Kansas Department of Transportation project extends from the K-44/K-49 junction north of Caldwell, to the east city limits of Anthony. Traffic will be detoured using K-49, U.S.160 and K-2, taking drivers through Milan, Argonia and Harper.

After issuing a Request for Qualifications last month, the city council voted unanimously on May 7 to select Dondlinger Construction as the construction manager for the city’s aquatic facility project.

GODDARD – After two failed attempts to reach an agreement for an easement for a welcome sign to the city, the Goddard City Council at its May 5 meeting voted to move forward with a condemnation process.

Cardinals take momentum into regionals The Cheney Cardinals baseball team will take some momentum into Thursday’s Class 3A regional opener after closing the regular season on a five-game winning streak. The Cardinals swept a doubleheader at Conway Springs-Argonia last Thursday, taking the opener 7-0 and the second game 4-0, then took two at Kingman-Norwich on Monday, 6-1 and 16-5, respectively.

TSnews VIOLA – Crashes on backto- back days last week – both of which shut down K-42 Highway for hours – raise questions about the safety of the intersection and if there are ways it could be made less dangerous. The first crash on Tuesday involved three vehicles and led to potentially serious injuries for one person.

TSnews GODDARD – Tuesday is decision day for Goddard School District voters and the $196 million bond that would help shape the district’s future. A big portion of the bond would be used to purchase land for a new campus and two new elementary schools, similar to the Eisenhower campus on 167th Street West that features a high school, middle school and two elementary schools.

For many students, their high school careers are coming to an end. Graduation season has arrived, and half of the local graduation ceremonies will take place through this weekend.
