GODDARD – Brad Cline of Goddard High School is the winner of the Goddard Education Association Teacher of the Year Award. Cline recently completed his 35th year in education, all of his years at Goddard.

TSnews HAYSVILLE – Mayor Russ Kessler on Monday presented a Mayor’s Certificate of Recognition to a Haysville youth who went into action to save a friend in a recent boating accident. This was the first order of business at the monthly city council meeting.

The Goddard Public Library is getting a new carpet. In order to make this process go much faster and to ensure the safety of staff and patrons, the library will need to be closed for two weeks.

Four new FFA chapters received their charter Wednesday during the opening session of the 95th Kansas FFA Convention, held May 31-June 2 on the Kansas State University campus. The new chapters include Conway Springs FFA, Hutchinson CTE Academy FFA, Jefferson County North FFA, and White City FFA.

CHENEY – During last week's monthly meeting, the Cheney City Council approved a pair of sidewalk projects. Council members voted 5-0 to accept the low bid of $17,901 from South Central Sealing to pour a 6-foot wide sidewalk on the east edge of the Cheney Sports Complex property.

Joshua Ritter, a Viola resident and recent graduate from Butler Community College, has earned the title of Kansas State Champion for Microsoft Office Specialist. He will represent the state of Kansas in the U.S.

GODDARD – Members of the Goddard Chamber of Commerce gathered last Thursday at Pathway Church for their monthly meeting. Members heard updates on the SummerBall Showdown, which will be played again later this summer at the Genesis Sports Complex.

GODDARD – Several new faces are expected to be on the Wichita City Council next year, as two of three incumbents seek other offices. But one possible new face is a familiar one to longtime Goddard residents.

CHENEY – A pair of Cheney Elementary student teams dominated the state of Kansas playing a stock market game this year. The team of Dominic Albers, Bryant Bergkamp, Trae McDaniel, and McKoy Young won the elementary division of the stock market game in Kansas, earning a (pretend) $17,568 in just three months.
