I have to confess that I have never been much of a cyclist. I finally learned how to ride a bike—mostly because I was embarrassed that my younger sister was (literally) riding circles around me.

CHENEY – Emergency personnel responded to a house fire in Cheney Sunday night. There were no significant injuries but the house was a total loss, according to Cheney Fire Chief Jerry Pietz.

GODDARD – Three people were injured – one of them critically – in a two-vehicle crash on Monday evening. The wreck happened around 7 p.m.

Moisture is likely too late to be of much help The Kansas wheat harvest got off to a slow start last week, and has been further delayed by rains that have come too late to help. If anything, the latest rain creates more problems by keeping farmers out of their fields.

Roughly 100 Kansas legislators and public officials were targeted last week by letters containing a suspicious white powder, according to information from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. A sample of the powder was sent to a laboratory that specializes in testing biological samples, the KBI reported, and preliminary tests were negative for “common biological agents of concern.” Additional testing is planned.
