Everyone OK following house fire
CHENEY – Emergency personnel responded to a house fire in Cheney Sunday night. There were no significant injuries but the house was a total loss, according to Cheney Fire Chief Jerry Pietz.
Three hurt, one critically, in crash
GODDARD – Three people were injured – one of them critically – in a two-vehicle crash on Monday evening. The wreck happened around 7 p.m.
Rain slows down wheat harvest
Moisture is likely too late to be of much help The Kansas wheat harvest got off to a slow start last week, and has been further delayed by rains that have come too late to help. If anything, the latest rain creates more problems by keeping farmers out of their fields.
Legislators targeted with suspicious powder
Roughly 100 Kansas legislators and public officials were targeted last week by letters containing a suspicious white powder, according to information from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
A new scoop
TSnews CONWAY SPRINGS – There’s a new spot for ice cream, pies and cheesecakes, and coffee and muffins in Sumner County. The Daily Scoop had a soft opening on Monday last week in Conway Springs, and celebrated with a ribbon cutting on Saturday.
GHS's Cline named Teacher of the Year
GODDARD – Brad Cline of Goddard High School is the winner of the Goddard Education Association Teacher of the Year Award. Cline recently completed his 35th year in education, all of his years at Goddard.
Youth honored for lifesaving effort
TSnews HAYSVILLE – Mayor Russ Kessler on Monday presented a Mayor’s Certificate of Recognition to a Haysville youth who went into action to save a friend in a recent boating accident. This was the first order of business at the monthly city council meeting.
Library closed for update
The Goddard Public Library is getting a new carpet. In order to make this process go much faster and to ensure the safety of staff and patrons, the library will need to be closed for two weeks.
CSHS granted FFA charter
Four new FFA chapters received their charter Wednesday during the opening session of the 95th Kansas FFA Convention, held May 31-June 2 on the Kansas State University campus. The new chapters include Conway Springs FFA, Hutchinson CTE Academy FFA, Jefferson County North FFA, and White City FFA.
