TSnews Every day sunset photos are special to many people. They are even more so when they are taken on your property and win a grand champion ribbon.

TSnews Kennedy Waugh of Quail Valley 4-H Club won reserve grand champion for her duck and grand champion for her vegetable assortment at the Sedgwick County Fair. She is 10 years old and lives near Cheney Lake.

TSnews Terry Chard of Cheney took a year off to give someone else a chance, but came back big. He entered a 12-1/2 pound cabbage into the Open Class Competition at the Sedgwick County Fair.

TSnews Lisa Snell of Wichita entered a floral bouquet into the Open Class Competition at the Sedgwick County Fair and won grand champion. The bouquet included zinnias, carrot flowers, black-eyed susans and parsley flowers.

Commodities will be distributed next week in three communities. In Clearwater, distribution will take place 1-5 p.m.

Beginning composting? Kansas State University horticulture expert Cynthia Domenghini recommends using a bin to ensure a successful compost pile. “A number of things are needed for building a compost pile, including a bin, a source of water, ‘green’ materials, and ‘brown’ materials,” Domenghini said.
