8 Years Ago On June 20, Haysville Piranhas swim coach Kelly Kennedy was with his wife, Pam, as she underwent surgery to combat breast cancer. When her single mastectomy and reconstruction surgeries were complete and she was awake again, Kelly showed Pam Facebook posts from a Wellington swim meet the Piranhas competed in that day.

SEDGWICK COUNTY – One person was seriously hurt in a June 26 two-vehicle crash on K-42 Highway at the intersection with 135th Street West, near Schulte. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Ford Ranger pickup northbound on 135th Street West did not stop at a stop sign, striking the trailer of an eastbound semi on K-42.

HAYSVILLE – The Haysville Street Banner Program through the City of Haysville is now underway for 2025 to 2028. The city is looking for businesses and organizations that desire to be showcased over the next three years.

TSnews GODDARD – The Goddard City Council voted at its June 24 meeting to update the city’s standby and on-call policy for employees. The new policy institutes $1 per hour in standby pay during on-call periods.

It comes as no surprise that June was one of the wettest on record. The National Weather Service in Wichita reports that 11.12 inches of rain fell at the official site at Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport in west Wichita. That is a “whopping” 6.19 inches above average, according to the NWS.

Brianna Barnes TSnews Campus High School teacher Brooke Ward has been inducted into the National High School BBQ Association Hall of Fame. She said she is honored to have received this recognition, especially since this is only the second year for the barbecue team at Campus, said Ward.

GODDARD – Eisenhower High School educator and high school softball coach Amber Brunswig died last weekend. The news was shared by the EHS Tigers softball page on Facebook.

CHENEY – Eliza Rosenhagen of Cheney gathered several awards at the recent Kansas Junior Angus Association Preview Show awards ceremony, which took place June 8 in Hutchinson. Rosenhagen was one of two girls to win top honors in the intermediate division of prepared public speaking.
