TSnews GODDARD – Members of the Goddard Chamber of Commerce hosted all five candidates for the Sedgwick County Commission District 3 seat at their monthly luncheon on July 11. The candidates were Republicans Greg Ferris of Wichita, Alan Reichert of Cheney, and Stephanie Wise of Wichita, and Democrats AlmaAnn Jones of Wichita and Celeste Racette of Wichita.

TSnews CHENEY – As the new school year approaches and summer winds down, members of the Cheney Chamber of Commerce reviewed recent activities around the community, and made plans for the group's next project. That event will be the Chamber's Ice Cream Social for school district staff members.

TSnews GARDEN PLAIN – The Garden Plain City Council met on July 10 and took care of several matters. • The council discussed trash rates.

TSnews CLEARWATER – During its meeting on July 9, the Clearwater City Council addressed itself to the major street repair and reconstruction project that will be starting soon. A representative from Pearson Construction came to answer questions about street closures, and the logistics of emergency and homeowner access.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) have issued a public health advisory due to blue-green algae. Lake Afton was one of four Kansas bodies of water added to the list on July 12.

WELLINGTON – Area crop producers, chemical applicators and anyone with an interest in agronomy or wheat production in Sedgwick and Sumner counties, are invited to attend the K-State preplant wheat meeting on Aug. 12, beginning at 6 p.m. with dinner at the Clearwater High School. The meal is being provided by American AgCredit.

CHENEY – The Cheney Police Department assisted the Kingman County Sheriff 's Department with a search for a wanted subject last Friday. Just after noon, the Kingman County Sheriff 's Department was notified that a stolen vehicle from New Mexico was traveling through the county on U.S.
