Shooting range to reopen after lead testing

CHENEY LAKE – The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has announced that the Cheney Shooting Range in Reno County will reopen in October following an investigation assisted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) into potential lead contamination. Results from soil, groundwater, and stream surveys confirm the range is safe for public use with no threat to the public or wildlife.

130 Years Ago A fire destroyed a granary, 10 tons of hay, 196 bushels of rent wheat, 50 bushels of wheat, two wagons, two header boxes loaded with corn, and other contents of the building at the Wm. Whitmer home four miles west of here in Kingman County last Friday night.

9 Years Ago Ruth Clark died last week at the age of 89. Clark was a beloved teacher who was honored in 2000 as the namesake of Haysville's Ruth Clark Elementary.
