No. 1 Moundridge gets by Garden Plain boys

The Garden Plain boys basketball team put up a good fight against the top team in Class 2A in the Owls’ only game last week. The Moundridge Wildcats, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, downed the Owls 4941 in a game that had been postponed by weather earlier this year.

Tigers do well at Andover

The Eisenhower Tigers headed to Andover last weekend for a tournament and had 10 wrestlers – nine girls and a boy – finish in the top 10. On the girls’ side, Sadie Kuehn won a title by default as the lone 100-pound wrestler at the tournament, while Kyrah Martinez (155) took second.

Raiders fall short of OT upset

The Argonia Raiders boys basketball team came painfully close to an upset of a tough Oxford Wildcats team last Friday night in Argonia. The Raiders took Oxford to overtime before ultimately dropping a 55-52 decision to fall to 2-10 on the season.

Lions roar at Rocky Welton

The Goddard Lions boys wrestling team made some noise last weekend when it competed at the always-tough Rocky Welton Invitational in Garden City. On the boys’ side, the Lions finished third as a team, with three wrestlers winning titles and three more finishing in the top five.

The Campus Colts boys and girls wrestling teams headed to Garden City last weekend to compete in the Rocky Welton Invitational, and one wrestler brought home a title. On the girls’ side, Brooklyn Burling won all three of her matches at 235 pounds to win a championship.

With the end of high school wrestling’s regular season just ahead, the Clearwater Indians might be peaking at the right time. The Indians competed at the Remington Bronco Invitational last weekend and did well, with the boys taking second and the girls finishing fifth.

Argonia stays hot, beats Oxford

The Argonia Raiders girls basketball team followed up its third-place finish at the South Central Border League Tournament by downing visiting Oxford 47-36 last Friday. The Raiders led just 17-15 at the intermission, but outscored the visitors 13-8 in the third period to take a 30-23 lead to the fourth quarter.
