A Campus High School graduate has been named KSN's new chief meteorologist, filling the position of Dave Freeman, her high school mentor. Lisa Teachman, a CHS graduate of 1998, started her meteorology career during her junior year of high school, sending KSN a letter requesting an internship. When Teachman was brought on by Dave Freeman, she began a six-year internship with the station, which she calls a second family.

Kansas farm dog wins national competition

Kansas Living When their border collie Tough was paralyzed from a traumatic spinal injury in 2015 while helping move cattle, Denny and Donna Ashcraft, ranchers in Jackson County, didn’t think she would recover. With hard decisions on the line and their dog’s quality of life to consider, the Ashcrafts watched over her with concern.
Tough, pictured above, is a hard-working cattle dog and sheepherder. She was paralyzed for almost three weeks following a spinal injury suffered while moving cattle. She worked her way back, and recently was named the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Dog of the Year. Kansas Living

Summer means it’s time for a ‘mango-nificent’ lemonade

You know summer is here when you start seeing area kids trying their hand at entrepreneurship with lemonade stands. This past weekend, I saw several friends posting photos of their children with toothy grins, sitting behind card tables adorned with homemade signs.
Fresh mango lemonade features pureed mangos, freshsqueezed lemon juice and a homemade simple syrup, making for a refreshing summertime drink. It’s great as is or with a splash of tequila.

We have a friend we lovingly refer to as “the human jukebox.” He has a ton of songs floating around in his head, and all it takes to get him to launch into one is to subtly mention a lyric. Joey and I sometimes make a game of seeing if we can make a comment that will result in him humming, whistling, or singing the song later on after it’s invaded his subconscious.
Crescent roll chicken pot pie casserole comes together quickly and features lots of great flavors from some fresh vegetables, along with plenty of herbs. It makes for a fantastic weeknight meal.

Filling Ingredients 1 tablespoon olive oil 3 celery stalks, diced 3 medium carrots, diced 1/4 yellow onion, diced 6-8 cloves garlic, minced Sauce Ingredients 10.5 ounces cream of chicken soup 3/4 cup milk Directions Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Spray an eight-by-eight-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set it aside.

Add the blackberries to a blender or food processor and process until they are smooth. Pour the berries into a fine-mesh sieve over a small saucepan, and stir them around, pressing the mixture to get as much out of the berries and into the pan as you can.
